Orissa DIG cremated with state honours
A contingent of ceremonial guards of PAP reversed their arms and fired in the air to pay respect to the deceased.

Hoshiarpur: Orissa DIG Jaswinder Singh, who was shot dead by his own security guard on Oct 23, was cremated on Thursday with full state honours at his native village of Bodal near Hoshiarpur in Punjab.

A large number of people from his village joined his family members in bidding adieu to the senior police official whose funeral pyre was lit by his twin sons Shubhkarman Singh and Prabhsimran Singh.

A contingent of ceremonial guards of PAP led by Sub Inspector Gurnam Singh reversed their arms and fired in the air to pay respect to the deceased.

The funeral ceremony attended by several important leaders and officials like Punjab Minister for Technical Education Romesh Chander Dogra, state DGP S S Virk, Sanjiv Misra, Resident Commissioner and Vinaytosh Misra, SP CID, represented the Orissa government.

Expressing sadness Virk said all possible help would be extended to the bereaved family and assured that he would take up the matter of CBI inquiry into the killing with the government.

Dogra said if the Bodal village panchayat would provide a land, state government would construct a community hall in the memory of Jaswinder Singh.
