New Delhi: Islamist women in Pakistan protested against Tourism Minister Nilofar Bakhtiar on Thursday.
A fatwa was issued against Bakhtiar by Islamic clerics at a radical mosque in Islamabad.
Bakhtiar had done the parajump from an aircraft to raise funds for survivors of the earthquake that struck Pakistan in October 2005.
More than 50 women from Islamist parties participated in the protest in Karachi, echoing that her act has brought disgrace to Islamic values and traditions.
Bakhtiar had earlier defied the fatwa and claimed that she would go parajumping again to support a good cause.
The fatwa demanded that Bakhtiar be fired, given another unspecified punishment and that her family “force her to ask for forgiveness so that she does not repeat this un-Islamic act.”
