Islamabad: Pakistan army chief General Raheel Sharif on Friday ordered his troops to "effectively" respond to "any provocation" from across the Line of Control (LoC). General Sharif visited Pakistani forces deployed in forward locations along the LoC near Jhelum to review the prevailing security situation in the area, an army statement said.
He was briefed by local commanders and expressed "satisfaction" at operational preparedness of troops, it said.
"He reiterated that any provocation along the Line of Control will be responded effectively," the statement said.
"The entire nation felt proud of the soldiers deployed in defence of the motherland," he said. TV footage issued by army showed army chief meeting the soldiers and officers.
The two armies had frequently engaged in exchanges of fire along the LoC while accusing each other for violating a ceasefire agreed in 2003.
