PDP leader, kin hurt in attack

THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: Tension prevailed at Mangalapuram after the district secretary of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Pachira Salahudeen, his son Suhail and a relative Nahas were injured in an attack. The incident occurred around 2.30 pm while the three were leaving Anoor Muslim JamaAth mosque near Mangalapuram after participating in Id prayers. The police have arrested one Shanavas in this connection. They are on the lookout of another accused Sabeel, who fled after the incident.According to the police, problems arose when a dispute erupted between Nahas and Sabeel at the mosque. When the dispute grew, Sabeel sought the help of Shanavas, who attacked Nahas with a knife that was used for sacrificing ceremony held in connection with the Id prayers. Salahudeen and Suhail got injured when they tried to intervene and resist the attack. Nahas suffered serious injuries and was admitted to the Medical College hospital here.
