KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has reiterated that tainted IPS officer Tomin Thachankary was reinstated on the recommendation from the Central Government.
Answering the queries of reporters after inaugurating a function at Tripunithura on Saturday, he said that it was on the basis of a letter from the Centre, that the state government made the decision to reinstate him in service.Meanwhile, the Kochi city police denied clearance to issue fresh passport as cases are pending against him. In a letter sent to the passport office on Friday night, the Kochi police recommended that Tomin Thachankary should not be issued fresh passport.

Thachankary applied for a fresh passport hiding the fact that cases are pending against him. In May, the Regional Passport Office had asked the police to give information about Thachankary, who was suspended on corruption charges and allegations of being involved with people having terror links, before considering his case for a fresh passport.

Thachankary is also involved in several cases.

He was reinstated to the service last month and he rejoined the police service early this month.
