KOCHI: Preparations for the Piravom constituency byelection has kicked off, said District Information Officer, P I Sheik Pareeth. Applications concentrated in the taluk, village offices are being verified and the final voters’ list will be published on January 5. Piravom constituency had 1,75,995 voters, 8,7326 men and 8,8669 women, in the 2011 election. Another 434 have been added to the list published on October 7, taking the number of voters to 1,76,429. Another 6,496 applications have been received. The 14 village offices in the Piravom constituency will remain open on Sunday and Monday to add them to the January 2012 list.Applications for the voter’s ID will be thoroughly verified and passed under the supervision of deputy tahsildars within 10 days beginning Sunday, said the collector. Procedures for direct verification of the details given in the applications are underway. The Muvattupuzha Tahsildar has been assigned the duty of Electoral Registration Officer for the Piravom constituency. The Election Commission has also directed the district administration to fill out any vacancies in the post of officers.
