Scores of activists of Sri Rajput Karni Sena on Monday held protest demonstrations in Jaipur demanding the withdrawal of the TV serial "Jodhaa Akbar", alleging the period drama had "distorted" the history of the Rajputs.
The SRKS activists gathered outside the Pink Square Mall where Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha were present for promotion of their new film 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobara', and demanded that the show should be stopped airing on Zee TV. Balaji Telefilms' head honcho Ekta Kapoor, who is the producer of the show, was not present inside the mall during her upcoming venture's promotion when the demonstration was held, police said.
"The character 'Jodhaa', as depicted in the serial, had never existed in Rajput history of Rajasthan nor with Akbar. "SRKS had not allowed the screening of famous movie 'Jodhaa Akbar' in Rajasthan two-three years ago, and now we will not allow this serial to air on Zee TV," the outfit's convenor Lokendra Singh Kalvi said. Kalvi added he had also filed a PIL against the TV serial in the Rajasthan High Court.
