New Delhi: Strong winds and rainfall lashed several parts of the national capital and adjoining areas in the wee hours of Wednesday, bringing down night temperatures to below normal level.
The mercury dipped to 23.7 degree Celsius, three notches below normal, as rain-filled winds swept across the city for the third straight day, providing citizens much needed respite from the searing heat.
Winds gushing at an estimated 28 kmph lashed the city for nearly an hour due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over Punjab and neighbouring areas, the Meteorological Department said.
It forecast light rains and possibly another squall in the next 24 hours with the maximum temperature likely to hover around 40 degrees Celsius.
Heavy rains and strong winds had hit the capital on Sunday night, uprooting trees and poles and plunging several areas of the city into darkness.
Maximum temperatures in Delhi touched the season's highest of 44.5-degree Celsius on May seven with the minimum of 27.7 Celsius on May 10.
