Rajinikanth and BJP Can Change Face of Tamil Nadu Politics, Says RSS Ideologue Gurumurthy
Gurumurthy said there is a huge vacuum in Tamil Nadu politics after Jayalalithaa's death and Rajinikanth is best suited to fill the void.

New Delhi: RSS ideologue Swaminathan Gurumurthy, the man who is known to be the mastermind of all things political in Tamil Nadu, has broken his silence on the crucial question, ‘Is Superstar Rajinikanth BJP's entry point in Tamil Nadu?

Speaking to CNN-News18’s Bhupendra Chaubey, Gurumurthy said, “It’s my assessment that Rajinikanth will float his own political outfit. There is a huge vacuum in the state’s politics following the death of Jayalalithaa. Rajinikanth is best suited to fill that void."

When asked whether BJP was going to extend support to Rajinikanth, the politician, Gurumurthy said, “I think Rajinikanth is himself aware of his drawbacks. It will be a wonderful moment to see him and Narendra Modi together. It will completely change the face of Tamil Nadu politics, which was driven by Dravidian politics," he said, adding that an alliance between the BJP and Rajinikanth's political outfit certainly will be the best move.

This is the first time that Gurumurthy has opened up on the question of whether Rajinikanth was going to join the BJP or not. His remarks will certainly create a huge flutter, both in Tamil and national politics.

He said the superstar’s entry will “de-Dravidianise" state politics. “Tamil Nadu has over the years become de-Dravidianised. Rajinikanth’s entry will help that cause further."

He said that Rajinikanth will emerge as the third force in the state as people are now growing tired of the duopoly of the AIADMK and the DMK. “Tamil Nadu has been in a state of chaos after Jaya’s death. Karunanidhi too is not keeping well," he said.

Gurumurthy said that in the past, Rajinikanth never wanted to join the politics, but has changed his mind after seeing the political situation. “I am not the bridge between the BJP and the actor, but if the two join hands, they will reduce the deficit and the drawbacks of each other," he said.

On the protests over the alleged imposition of Hindi in non-Hindi speaking states by the Centre, the RSS ideologue said that the “anti-north" and ‘anti-Hindi" protests in the state have failed. “Nearly 70% people here want to learn Hindi now," he claimed.

He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, saying that he represents evolution of our society. “PM Modi represents an idea that is finding acceptance with the people," he said. Gurumurthy also gave credit to Modi for the demonetisation move, saying it was like a “forensic audit" of India’s shadow economy.

Refuting rumours of any rift within the BJP over the selection of the presidential nominee, he said that empowering a dalit or a woman was the need of the hour and the “eco-systems in the current scenario had played an important role in the selection."

He also played down reports of L K Advani being unhappy after being overlooked for the post, adding that Advani was never against Modi being projected as the PM face before the 2014 elections.

On the standoff with China at the Bhutan tri-junction, he said that China’s increasingly sharp rhetoric while dealing with India showed that it cannot handle us easily anymore.

“India is becoming a major player in the world. China's attitude today shows it has to contend with what India is today... one of the major powers in the world," he said.
