The ceasefire violations have escalated in last few days and resulted in large number of civilian casualties.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is on a three-day visit to the forward areas along India border with Pakistan and China.

Speaking to mediapersons, the Home Minister reiterated that China must resolve border disputes in order to improve relationship with India, even as he urged Pakistan to take initiatives to better ties.

The visit by Rajnath comes while the armies of both India and Pakistan are holding a flag meeting in Poonch, which has witnessed several instances of ceasefire violation. The meeting is being held to discuss how to lower tensions along the Line of Control and the international border.

The ceasefire violations have escalated in last few days and resulted in large number of civilian casualties and collateral damage to properties.

The field commanders from both sides are also set to discuss the modalities to defuse the tense situation.

Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire 23 times in September this year, shelling Indian civilian and military positions using 120 mm, 82 mm mortars, Rocket Projectile Grenades (RPGs) and automatic weapons, according to Indian officials.

On last Sunday, BSF officer ASI Sohan was killed in shelling when Pakistan targeted their post in Manjakotr sector along LoC in Rajouri district.
