Ready to become DMK chief: Alagiri

CHENNAI: DMK strongman from south M K Alagiri proclaimed that he was ready to become the party chief here on Tuesday night. He spoke to mediapersons after arriving in Chennai fr-om his personal trip to Kuala Lumpur. “If given, am ready to take up the party chief post,” Alagiri replied to the media when asked whether he would accept the party chief post.However, in a press release from the party high command criticising a media house for its unsuccessful attempts to incite infighting in the party, it was claimed that Alagiri was not eyeing the p-arty chief post.Party sources said Alagiri would garner the support of the party chief and his father M Karunanidhi to become the treasurer, which was one among the two key posts, the other being that of general secretary.Responding to a question on AIADMK Ministers working in full strength for the byelection for Sankarankoil, Alagiri maintained that DMK would launch intensive campaigns soon, after finalising the candidate for which interviews were scheduled for Friday.He chose not to reply as to whether the DMK was trying to revive its bonhomie with Vijayakanth-led DMDK in the backdrop of recent developments in the State assembly.
