KAKINADA: For effective functioning of the police department in the state, plans are afoot to realign the police sub-divisions covering each Assembly constituency. Further, the department has decided to set up sub-controls across the state to check eve-teasing, traffic violations and other such issues.Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, directorgeneral of police V Dinesh Reddy said people can lodge complaints in the sub-controls near their area instead of going all the way to a police station. "The complaints will be transferred from the sub-control to the mother police station.Some police personnel of the respective police station will take care of the sub-controls," he said. The sub-controls established in Hyderabad on an experimental basis turned out to be successful models, increasing the police visibility and bringing down the crime rate.In East Godavari district, a new circle police station will be established at Uppada near Kakinada, and regular police stations at Tondangi and Uppada.The Rajahmundry Urban district police office will have a permanent building soon. Dinesh Reddy said that the state government was giving top priority to police welfare and the base hospital at Hyderabad was being strengthened with necessary facilities. "Proposals have been submitted to the government to give promotions to sub-inspectors as in Maharashtra and some other states," he said.An M-17 category aircraft will be pressed into service in the Visakhapatnam area shortly to track the movements of Maoists in the forest areas.An unmanned aircraft, Bird, will also be operated from the Madhurapudi airport for taking satellite pictures and transmitting the same to the field staff immediately. He said efforts were on to strengthen the coastal security in view of the importance of the Krishna-Godavari basin and private security of oil majors in the state should work under the police department. Later the DGP participated in various programmes at Kakinada and Amalapuram.
