CHENNAI: The Registrar and the Controller of Examinations of TN Dr MGR Medical University were directed by the Madras High Court on Tuesday to appear before it on January 11 for not complying with the court’s earlier orders.According to advocate S Thanka Sivan, a batch of aggrieved students of the fourth-year MBBS course moved the Madras High Court and the first Bench had directed the medical university to allow them to undergo internship training with a condition that they should not claim equity.Sivan contended that the university had not complied with the direction and not permitted the students to do internship. Hence, the students filed contempt applications seeking to punish the Registrar and the CoE.The first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam had noted that the writ petitions of the students were later allowed by the HC.The university preferred special leave petitions in the Supreme Court and the same were dismissed by the apex court. “In that view of the matter, if our (interim) orders have not been complied with, it is a serious matter. The registrar and the CoE shall personally file separate affidavits stating as to why proceedings for contempt be not initiated against them for violating the interim orders,’’ the bench had observed and posted the matter for further hearing on January 3.Despite the order, as no affidavit was filed either by the registrar or by the CoE on Tuesday, the bench directed the two to appear before it on January 11.
