A Karnataka court on Saturday remanded Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa to judicial custody till July 4 in connection to the Renukaswamy murder case.
Along with the actor, his three alleged accomplices Vinay, Pradosh and Dhanaraj were also sent to judicial custody.
He was in the police custody since June 11. Two days ago, 13 other accused, including the actor’s friend Pavithra Gowda, were remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody.
A total of 17 people are accused in the murder case.
As per police sources, Renukaswamy, a fan of the actor, had sent obscene messages to Gowda, which enraged Darshan, allegedly leading to his murder.
Renukaswamy’s body was found near a stormwater drain adjacent to an apartment in Bengaluru’s Sumanahalli on June 9.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Kannada actor Darshan had borrowed Rs 40 lakh to destroy evidence. As reported by India Today, Darshan recently shared his statement with the Karnataka police when he confessed that he had borrowed Rs 40 lakh from one of his friends to pay off other accused to destroy evidence. Besides this, it has also been reported that Darshan had already paid Rs 30 lakh to others to surrender.
Darshan is being probed in connection to the Renuka Swamy murder case. Swamy was found dead in Bengaluru. He used to reportedly work at an Apollo Pharmacy branch in Chitradurga. It has been alleged that Renuka used to send vulgar messages to Kannada actress Pavithra Gowad, a friend of Darshan. Angry about this, Renuka Swamy was murdered and his dead body was allegedly thrown in a canal at Kamaksshipalya, Bengaluru in front of Darshan.
Previously, Karnataka police officials also claimed that Darshan and his aides beat Renuka Swamy with sticks and threw him against the wall which led to his death. “It was Pavithra who instigated Darshan to punish Renukaswamy. Accordingly, the plan was hatched,” sources claimed.
