The Madras High Court called for a full report with regard to the constitution of Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) and Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) in the State.
In response to earlier orders, the Department of Social Defence filed an affidavit stating that action had already been initiated to identify the required buildings for all the 24 JJBs and 14 CWCs in the State.
The first bench comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice A Arumugasamy said that this statement was va-gue, inasmuch as no details had been furnished as to the districts where the JJBs and CWCs were functioning. It was not clear whether the infrastructural facilities, including furniture and computers, had been supplied and installed on those premises. The authority, therefore, should file an affidavit giving all such details. The details about the persons from whom the premises had been taken on rent and while taking the premises on rent, the provisions of the TN Juvenile (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2006 and the Rules, 2012, had been complied with, should also be furnished, the bench added and posted the matter after three weeks.
The bench was passing further interim orders on the PILs from A Narayanan of Virugambakkam and another.
