Thiruvananthapuram: Gold and cash worth nearly Rs 4 crore has been robbed from a Vijaya Bank branch in Cheruvathoor of Kasargode district. The cash is worth Rs 3 lakh while the rest is in the form of gold.
The police is still trying to ascertain the estimate of the loss. The bank was functioning at the first floor of a building and some construction activities were underway in the ground floor.
The bank had been closed for the last three days ie. on on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The hole was dug from ground floor hole to the first floor.
There were three lockers in the bank of which two were looted. The robbery came to light on Monday morning when the bank reopened. Initial assumptions suggest that it can be a gang from outside with local support.
It was on September 7 that a co-operative bank in Kasargode was robbed. Six people have already been arrested in that case.
