THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While a total of Rs 470 crore has been set apart for the health sector, Rs 1 crore has been set apart of the preliminary work for an Ayurveda University to come up near Kottakkal in Malappuram district. This Ayurveda University is not just for the growth and development of ayurveda but also for co-ordination of research activities, standardisation of medicines and earning international recognition for this ancient system of medicine. Wayanad district would get a new medical college while Thrissur and Alappuzha districts will get a dental college each.An amount of Rs 2 crore has been earmarked for the medical college in Wayanad while Rs 5 crore has been allocated for both the dental colleges. A medical college would also be set up at Haripad as a private-public initiative.With the health indices of women and children being indicators of the development of the state, a considerable amount has been set apart for the health initiatives for women and children. As many as eight districts will have women and child hospitals, for which Rs 35 crore has been earmarked. Neonatal centres will be set up for new bornbabies in the paediatric departments of all medical colleges. Funds have been allocated for the improvement of cancer diagnosis and treatment facilities at both the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), here and Malabar Cancer Centre.RCC gets Rs 22 crore for improving facilities and Rs 8 crore for infrastructure whereas Malabar Cancer centre.
