RTC accident rate dips to 0.09 percent

The accident rate of APSRTC buses came down considerably to 0.09 per cent during 2011-2012, corporation chairman M Satyanarayana Rao has said.

The public sector road transport undertaking observed Accident-free Week form July 23 to 29.

Speaking at the valedictory at Bus Bhavan here on Sunday, the chairman said safety was more important than any other aspect and appealed to employees not to be drunk or talking over cellphone while driving.

Vice-chairman and managing director AK Khan said drivers should avoid doing double duties which would harm their health. He advised them to work for eight hours, spend eight hours with their families and take eight hours of rest. To create awareness on safety and inculcate good habits in drivers, the corporation decided to observe Accident-free Week, Khan explained.

Seven drivers, who have had a long accident-free record in their career, were felicitated and presented with a cash reward of Rs 4,500. Several officials and employees donated blood on the occasion.
