SAMBALAPUR: The stand-off between Sambalpur District Bar Association (SDBA) and Collector Mrinalini Darswal has finally been resolved. Revenue Division Commissioner (Northern Range) Kishore Chandra Barik had initiated the peace process which followed one-and-a-half-day of hectic parleys among members of SDBA who were divided over any rapprochement with the Collector. The matter was sorted out in the presence of the warring parties, Barik, IG of Police (NR) R P Koche and SP Nikhil Kanodia on Friday. After the meeting, Barik said the matter was amicably resolved and the Collector regretted the incident. The lawyers would call off their ceasework stir and both side have agreed to withdraw cases against each other, he added.SDBA president Pramod Rath said the statement of regret of the Collector and withdrawal of cases paved way for the settlement. The inconvenience of the people also weighed in on the settlement as the stir had paralysed the judiciary since April 23. Rath informed that they have demanded the transfer of District Sub Register (DSR), who was at the centre of the entire controversy, and said the RDC (ND) has assured them that he would pursue the matter. He also informed that the RDC (ND) has agreed to convene a meeting with the Managing Director of Wesco to discuss the power cuts.A section of BJD leadership had reportedly requested Barik to bring the warring parties to the negotiating table. Subsequently, Barik invited a delegation of the SDBA to discuss the matter on Wednesday and suggested to end the matter amicably. It is learnt that the lawyers had set conditions to end the matter which saw the SDBA go into a huddle through Thursday and till noon on Friday. However, the Collector was unwilling to issue a statement of regret and said to have agreed under pressure from the State Government.
