THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday gave sanction to prosecute four police officers who were arrested by the CBI in the Sampath custodial murder case. The decision was taken following the request made by the CBI to the government. The four police officers are  DySP C K Ramachandran, Sub-Inspector (Palakkad South Station) T N Unnikrishnan,  SI (Town North Station) P V Ramesh, and constable Shyama Prasad. About 14 policemen are accused in the case according to the Crime Branch which investigated the case. All of them have been suspended from the service. Sampath was the first accused in the Puthur Sheela murder case. Sheela, wife of Jayakrishnan, was murdered at her house at Puthur in Palakkad district, on March 23, 2010. However, Sampath, who was arrested by the police along with the other two main accused, was found dead in police custody. The probe was handed over to the CBI following a High Court directive.
