New Delhi: The long-standing Ayodhya issue returned to limelight yet again on Monday when Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking contempt action against the Centre for the alleged construction at the disputed site.
An apex court Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justice R V Raveendran and Justice Dalveer Bhandari declined to entertain the petition of one Mohd Aslam alias Bhure.
Bhure had filed a petition insisting some construction has taken place on the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi site.
But SC dismissed it after the counsel was unable to satisfy the type of construction allegedly had come up at the site.
"Your grievance in the petition is that building materials have been collected there," the Bench observed.
PTI reports Bhure had been approaching the apex court on the Ayodhya dispute even before the structure was demolished on December 6, 1992.
His counsel M M Kashyap submitted that huge construction activities had taken place at the site against the order of the court. Bhire also claimed that nearly 4,000 sq feet area had been encroached upon and this had been going on since January 7, 1993.
Bhure had asked for a status quo to be maintained at the site till the title suit about the property be decided.
However, his reply did not satisfy the Bench which dismissed the petition without dwelling any further.
