Los Angeles: Helen Fielding says she found it difficult to break the news about Darcy's death to actor Colin Firth, who played the character in two of 'Bridget Jones' movies.
The author angered many fans by killing Jones' lover in the third installment of the series but she was worried while breaking the news to Firth, who had agreed to play Darcy in the movie adaptation of Fielding's novels despite donning the iconic character in a Jane Austen adaptation for BBC.
In an interview with Time magazine, Fielding said she called the Oscar-winning actor and delivered the news over phone.
"I had to ask him if he had someone with him and if he was sitting down.It was like someone actually had died. We had to process it. And I was almost saying, 'I'm so sorry for your loss'," Fielding said.
The author explained to Firth that Darcy's presence can be felt throughout the book because of his children with Bridget, a girl named Mabel and a boy named Billy, who closely resembles his father.
"As I told (Colin), his memory will live on and he will rise from the dead rather like Jesus," she said.
Firth is yet to comment on the demise of his character in 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy'.
