New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to Essar group, Central government and Central Bureau of Investigation on an NGO plea seeking a court-monitored probe into Essar email leak case.
The move came after a PIL sought a probe by an Special Investigation Probe into nexus between corporate houses, politicians, bureaucrats and media.
Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan told the apex court that the whistle-blower in the case is being threatened by Essar group and there is a great danger to his family.
In this case, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has been accused of taking favours from the Essar group. Senior Congress leaders have also been accused of referring candidates for jobs in the company.
Reports also emerged that Gadkari enjoyed the hospitality of the Essar group during a trip to Europe. He, who had to step down as BJP president after a controversy erupted over his alleged stakes in shell companies in January 2013, said he held no public office at the time of his visit to the yacht anchored off a seaside village on the French Riviera in July that year.
