New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned the chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu by July 31. They have been asked to explain about the non-implementation of police reforms in their states.
The bench had in 2006 passed a slew of measures for bringing about reform in the police machinery.
Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had also pitched for police reforms and said police need to be provided a better working environment that is "insulated from pulls and pressures".
