BANGALORE: Chittapur constituency in the state has the most number of children leaving government schools. In 2010-2011 10,986 students decided to quit school in Chittapur. A larger picture of the state’s education system shows that 3,37,299 children have quit government school in the past two years. This is according to government data which is being maintained by the District Information System for Education. This data has been complied and arranged according to MLA Constituency by India Governs Research Institute in a report titled “MLA Constituency Status Reports: Education” for the first time in country.“We have ensured that the data compiled is only from government figures and not from independent bodies. With assembly elections due next year, this data will help people choose their leaders on merits other than speeches or caste equations,” said Veena Ramanna, Director of India Governs.Another shocking statistic that comes into light as a result of such collation is that 14,092 schools in the state do not have toilet facilities for girls. This is almost 24 per cent of the total amount of schools in the state.“18,077 classrooms in government schools require major repairs according to latest data,” added Veena, giving highlights from the report.
