HUBLI: Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner (HDMC) K V Thrilok Chandra stated that the HDMC is considering re-floating of tender for getting a bronze statue of Shivaji.Thrilok Chandra also said that the HDMC had filed a criminal case against sculptor Ravindra Munde in 2011 for not fulfilling the agreement reached with him in providing a statute. He clarified that the HDMC had been corresponding with him right from the beginning and was waiting to take a proper decision on the matter. Express in its report on May 7, said that the sculptor had failed to deliver the statue till date despite getting money. It was mentioned, as per the documents available with Express, that the HDMC had not communicated with Munde between 2003 and 2007. The Commissioner further said that when the issue came to his notice, he immediately initiated legal proceedings and filed a lawsuit in the Dharwad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum and a criminal case in the Hubli JMFC.He assured that the amount given to the sculptor will be recovered from him through a legal process. The Consumer Forum directed the sculptor on May 3 to repay Rs 14.65 lakh to the HDMC at nine per cent per annum from the date of complaint till realisation along with Rs 50,000 towards expenses incurred by complainant and compensation towards mental agony and Rs 1,000 towards litigation charges within 30 days from the date of receipt of copy of the order.
