Second India-SL ODI in doubt after Telangana row
Second India-SL ODI in doubt after Telangana row
India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play an ODI in Vishakhapatnam.

New Delhi: The second One Day International (ODI) match between India and Sri Lanka in Vishakhapatnam is doubtful because of ongoing agitation against Telangana in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is reported to be considering moving the match scheduled on December 18 to some other venue because of political unrest in Vishakhapatnam.

BCCI sources say the sale of tickets for the December 18 match has been put on hold for the time being.

However, Visakhapatnam Cricket Association (VCA) denied that the second ODI was in doubt.

"We have got no information that the December 18 ODI match has been cancelled or the venue has been shifted. So we are going ahead as per schedule," a VCA official said.

The Andhra Cricket Association has not sent any official communication to the BCCI but some Under-16 and Under-19 games have been cancelled.

BCCI would be under tremendous pressure if it is forced to shift the match to some other venue and will find it very difficult to get another venue ready for the match at such a short notice.

Andhra Pradesh has been on the boil ever since Home Minister P Chidambaram said that the process for the formation of a separate state of Telangana would be initiated and a resolution would be moved in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

The Home Minister's announcement came after Telangana Rashtra Samithi President K Chandrasekhar Rao went on a fast unto death demanding the creation of Telangana.

Chidambaram's announcement stoked a political furore in the state with even the ruling Congress party divided over the issue.
