KOCHI: Finance Minister K M Mani has said that he would strongly recommend enacting a new law in the Assembly to ensure security of medical practitioners and hospitals in the state. He was speaking at the valedictory function of the national workshop on ‘Redefining Medical Ethics,’ organised by the Indian Medical Association here on Sunday.Mani said that medical practitioners were doing a noble job by serving society. However, they are frequently attacked for small issues. So the UDF Government will look forward to bringing in a new law to ensure their security.Changes in medical ethics should be made considering the needs of society. Every doctor should be aware of their social responsibility. They should be vigilant, alert and careful in their work.According to the minister, medical practice is a risky job and a careless mistake can lead to loss of life. He said that medical practitioners should be careful and kind in their approach to patients.Benny Behanan MLA, IMA national vice-president Dr M Bhaskaran, state president Dr G Vijayakumar and Kochi IMA president Dr S Sachidananda Kamath spoke on the occasion.
