Tirunelveli: Security is being further beefed up at Kudankulam Nuclear Power plant and additional forces, including CRPF and Coast Guard, will be deployed in view of the call by anti-nuclear activists to lay siege at the plant on October 8, officials said on Friday.

People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy, spearheading the over year-long stir against the KNPP, has announced that protesters will take the sea route and lay siege at the plant to press their demand against commissioning of the Indo-Russian project.

Officials said in the next two days, 200 CRPF personnel will join 300 CISF personnel already deployed at the site of the plant, where the loading enriched uranium had been taken up.

Coast Guard will be deployed in full strength to prevent the protesters plan to lay siege to the plant, they said, adding that 1,000 policeman are on security duty in Kudankulam, Idinthakarai and other neighbouring hamlets, people of which are up in arms against the power plant.

More police force have been sought to prevent people from assembling at any place, they said. Officials said in Idinthakarai, the epicentre of the protests, people had dug long pits on the road to prevent Police vehicles from entering their village.
