NEYYATTINKARA: Former CPM leader and MLA R Selvaraj has announced that he would not remain in political exile and would work along with those comrades who had already left the party.He also hinted at initiating legal proceedings against those who accused him of receiving money for quitting the CPM. “Those who allege me of receiving funds would have to provide the evidence in the courts,” he said at a political meting convened at the Town Hall, here on Thursday evening.Selvaraj denied all the allegations raised against him, including that of finding a job to his son-in-law in Cochin Corporation. “He is fully qualified for that post and does not need the recommendation of anyone, including the Chief Minister. Moreover, it is a job on a one-year contract,” said the former MLA.He pooh-poohed those who alleged him of buying gold worth Rs 40 lakh while admitting that he made purchase from a prominent jewellery shop at East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram. “Anyone can check the details of our purchase with the shop,” he said. Selvaraj stated that he owed `18 lakh to various banks and said anyone can verify his assets. He did not deny calling government Chief Whip P C George on his mobile and that of his PA. “As an MLA, I had called many persons, including George, for many things.” But he did not mention anything on the speedy allocation of funds to his constituency, days before his resignation.Though he did not make it clear whether he would be joining hands with the UDF, he said he would associate with the Janakeeya Vikasana Samithi (JVS),an outfit formed by the former CPM members of Shornur in Palakkad district. Selvaraj accused a former district panchayat president of misusing the funds of People’s Planning Project, without naming him.
