To enlist the opinions of all those who are connected with the transport system in the state, a national seminar on ‘Transport Vision Kerala - 2030’ to be organised by National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (Natpac) will be held at Mascot Hotel here on August 20 and 21.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the seminar which will discuss the draft transport policy formulated by Natpac and submitted to the State Government. The policy paper is being discussed at various forums with the public, experts in the field and stakeholders.
The seminar is being organised to as part of wider consultation for transport development and to evolve Transport Vision for Kerala. The focus of the seminar will be to deliberate on the present transportation development, its shortfalls and deficiencies and recommend multi-model transportation system for Kerala.
The seminar will deliberate on measures to check the unprecedented growth of motor vehicles in the state which is the root cause of traffic congestion and increasing pollution levels. There will be focus on urban traffic problems and improving the service level and identify modern public transport system.
Discussions will be held on ways to harness the potential of coastal routes/waterways for coastal shipping and inland navigation for movement of bulk commodities and passenger traffic.
Deliberations on methods of capacity augmentation and qualitative improvement of road network will also be held.
Several personalities connected with this sector will participate in the two-day seminar. Finance Minister K M Mani will inaugurate the valedictory function.
