New Delhi: Tension had erupted in northeast Delhi's Jaffrabad area last night after a severed animal head was found near Ghond Chowk intersection, police said on Monday.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) R A Sanjeev, the incident came to light around 10 PM last night when the animal head was found kept in front of a hotel there. A large number of people gathered at the spot and started shouting slogans and some locals also allegedly vandalised the hotel property, the DCP said.
"No stone pelting took place and no one was injured in the incident. We have registered a case and investigation are to identify who placed the head at the intersection," he said.
The situation was soon brought under control by the police which dispersed the crowd and seized the severed head. A large contingent of police has been deployed in Jaffrabad, Bhajanpura and Seelampur area and local Aman committees were roped in to maintain peace.
Police have registered a case under section 153 (promoting enmity between different groups on basis of religion), 495A and cruelty towards animals.
