Patna: Disappointed over Nitish Kumar's decision to re-join the NDA, senior Janta Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav is mulling to form a new party and align with the Congress-led UPA.
Yadav's close aide Vijay Verma revealed on Wednesday that the Bihar strongman was meeting leaders of JD(U)’s state units and is also in touch with other “like-minded parties.”
He claimed that the announcement of a new party could be made any day this week.
In Patna, JD(U) leaders accepted the fact that Sharad Yadav is not on board with Nitish’s plans. Senior leader and party's chief spokesman, Sanjay Singh, said, "Sharad ji is our senior leader but has taken a different path. He is free to take any decision."
Nitish even took a dig at Yadav when a journalist asked about the chances of him leaving the party. "Who knows? I might be less burdened, but I am making it clear that my party is only recognised in Bihar. I have nothing to do with other state units," he said on Monday.
On July 26, Nitish Kumar had abruptly ended the coalition government he had formed with the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Congress by resigning as the Bihar CM. He had formed a government with the BJP the next day.
After keeping mum for a couple of days, Yadav has started attacking Nitish. "The Mandate was for the Mahagathbandhan against a BJP-led alliance. Now, swapping alliance partners is cheating the 11 crore people of the state," he said recently.
He also made public his displeasure on Nitish's statement that no one is capable to take on Narendra Modi in 2019 general elections.
