Veteran film maker, Shyam Benegal, who has received the prestigious ANR award recently, has addressed the students at Annapurna International School of Film and Media (AISFM).
"Besides learning all the disciplines of film making, young film makers have to keep on observing the world around you. You have to watch, listen and importantly observe the changes in emotions when people discuss", he advises.
"Keep learning about the society you are in. India is such a diverse country that, a lifetime is not enough to know about it. You have to learn every day and should not think what you have learnt is enough. I never thought so and I go on learning each day. It keeps me away from being complacent".
"Discuss the films threadbare, deconstruct them, come up with your own ideas and reconstruct the film. Then you will come to know the nature of the film and the vocabulary, which is very important for film makers today".
He also praised the young film makers who are being trained in film schools." I see a great future for Indian film industry. The young directors are being brilliantly trained and their cinematic vocabulary has been excellent. Most importantly, there is freshness in ideas and great vigor in them".
Admissions and Marketing head of AISFM, Chris Higgins, thanked him for his invaluable guidance to the students and said that it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the students to meet someone like Shyam Benegal.
