Panaji: Malaysian-Chinese star Michelle Yeoh, who was sidelined at the 42nd edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the festival this year.
The 50-year-old actor played Aung San Suu Kyi in the biopic 'The Lady' in 2011.
"Yeoh will be the chief guest. This is part of an effort to widen the international profile of the festival especially after having invited Hollywood star Susan Sarandon as the chief guest for the inaugural function," an official said.
Yeoh, who was also present at the closing ceremony of the festival in 2011, was upstaged by lesser known Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut.
While Ranaut got a seat in the front row during the closing ceremony in 2011, Yeoh was shunted to the second row, even as her film 'The Lady' was the concluding film of the festival that year.
This year, IFFI began Nov 20. It will conclude Saturday.
