Skill training focus on slum-free cities

The six cities under Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) _ Cuttack, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Puri, Berhampur and Bhubaneswar _ participated in a training programme for skill upgradation organised by BMC and Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department on Friday.

Specialists from City Level Technical Cell (CTTC), coordinators and service agency members also participated. Various aspects of city planning were discussed, the most important aspect was how to make the city slum-free.

 Support to National Policies for Urban Poverty Reduction (SNPUPR) under the Central Government expert from New Delhi, Balakrishna Prasad was there to provide expertise for the training programme. Specialists and coordinators from the six RAY cities also participated.

The major discussions focused on preparation of slum-free cities’ plan of action, the roles, responsibilities of NGOs and socio-economic service agencies, benefits of neighbourhood groups and committees involved in the preparation of the plans. Motivation and mobilisation, leadership skill and organisational development qualities were also a part of the training imparted during the programme.

“The training will enable better city planning by the specialists under the RAY programme,” said project officer of  Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) Srimanta Misra. The plan of for a slum-free city would be the focus of the participants, post-training programme.

Vice-Chairman of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Vishal K Dev and BMC Commissioner Sanjib Kumar Mishra also contributed their mite to the training programme.
