Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) on Thursday alleged that Congress President Sonia Gandhi's massive victory was due to "terror and rigging" by her party in the constituency.
"The Congress had created terror and crossed all limits of rigging in the bypolls," SP state unit chief Ram Saran Das told newspersons.
Asked about the loss of security deposit of SP candidate Raj Kumar Chowdhury, Das alleged that Central security forces were deployed at Rae Bareli "to ensure that our candidate is defeated."
The Congress took advantage of the fact that its government was at the Centre, he said.
Das said senior SP leader Beni Prasad Verma had already expressed apprehensions that the Congress could resort to "massive rigging in the polling. Our apprehensions proved correct," he said.
