BANGALORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri on Friday expressed fears about the declining  Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination results in rural schools, and suggested convening a meeting of all headmasters, teachers and officials concerned to identify the problems. Speaking at a state-level workshop for heads of zilla panchayats and corporation standing committees for education and health, the minister stressed on recognising what was going wrong with the SSLC results. “SSLC results in rural schools have been constantly under 50 per cent. There has to be a meeting with all educational officials to rectify the mistakes,” he said in his address. The minister continued: “Most students are failing in one subject. Does this mean that the respective teacher isn’t good enough... We have to focus on high school learning... Let us identify such trends.” The theme of the workshop was the role and cooperation of local governing bodies in implementation of educational programmes in the state.
