A stalker slit the throat of a woman at Gunupudi in Bhimavaram mandal on Friday for refusing to marry him. The victim Sheik Safia (26) was shifted to hospital and her condition is stated to be stable.
Police said Safia who hails from Tanuku, divorced her first husband Nani of Bhimavaram and married Vasu 18 months ago. The couple run a catering business. RS Suresh (26), a neighbour, was pestering Safia to marry him.
Rejecting his proposal, she informed the matter to Vasu on Thursday, who decided to lodge a complaint with the police. Anticipating Vasu’s move, Suresh forcibly entered the house of Safia at 11 am while she was alone and slit her throat with a blade. On hearing her cries, neighbours admitted her to the government hospital.
