CHENNAI: Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, the literary wing of Shriram group, is organising Thirukkural Elocution Contest 2011, the annual state level elocution competition in July and August, for school and college students in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.The contest’s preliminary rounds in Chennai will begin July 16 at Dr MGR Janaki Arts and Science College for Women in RA Puram. It will also be held at Vellore on July 17, Coimbatore and Salem on July 23 and 24 respectively, on July 30 in Nellai and 31 in Madurai, and Trichy and Puducherry on August 6 and 7 respectively.The contestants will be divided into four groups – Juniors (Classes: 6-8), Seniors (Classes: 9 & 10), Super Seniors (Classes: 11 & 12) and College (UG, PG, Engineering, Medical and Polytechnic students).Each institution can send only two entries from each class. Colleges can send six students (UG 4 & PG 2) for the competition. Polytechnics can send four students. Each contestant can speak for 5 minutes on any of the following topics: Junior level: Ozhukkathin Eidhuvar Maenmai (137) or Ulliyadhu Eidhal Elidhu (540) or Inbam Payakkum Vinai (669) Senior level: Sirappu Eenum Selvam Perinum (311) or Solliya Vannam Seyal (664) or Uzhandhum Uzhavae Thalai (1031).Super Senior level: Orumaikkkan Thaan Kattra Kalvi (398) or Anienba Naatirkku Evvaindhu (738) or Theedhu Indri Vandha Porul (754).College level: Udambodu Uyir Idai Natppu (338) or Karuviyum Kaalamum Seigaiyum (631) or Unnarkka Kallai (922).Winners in each group will receive a cash award of `10,000, `7,500 and `5,000 as first, second and third prize, respectively.
