Stephen's student submits audio, SMSs showing she was pressured to withdraw sexual harassment complaint
The audio recordings submitted by the complainant allegedly throw light on Thampu's attempt to cover up the matter.

New Delhi: The research student from St Stephen’s College, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by her college professor Satish Kumar, has submitted audio recordings and SMS-es that allegedly vindicate her claims that she was pressured to take back her complaint.

The audio recordings submitted by the complainant allegedly throw light on college principal Valson Thampu's attempt to cover up the matter. The student has produced recordings, purportedly of four meetings between her, Thampu and the accused professor which were held on January 7, 9 and 10 in 2015. The authenticity of the recordings is yet to be verified.

The PhD student has alleged that Thampu urged her to drop the sexual harassment complaint against the accused professor. The student also claims that Thampu said that he would ensure that her research is completed on time if she withdrew the charges. Thampu said that if she complained about the matter, it would attract media attention, she added.

Thampu has so far maintained that there was no pressure put on the student to withdraw her complaint.

The student had approached police alleging that Kumar had molested the complainant on October 15, 2013. She had also accused him of stalking her, passing lewd remarks and making inappropriate physical contact for months before the incident and even threatening to "pour sulfuric acid on her if she didn't wear a yellow sari to college.
