KOZHIKODE: School children can be free from the boredom of being confined within the four walls of  classroom, as now they can enjoy their studies through the cheapest mode of communication- radio. In a unique initiative of taking education to the next level, the State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET) is all set to impart education to the students of the state through community FM radio stations. Students can learn their lessons as they are taught in the school by just tuning into the stations available in their vicinity. As part of the implementation of the project, SIET will start transmitting classes in the tribal areas of Wayanad district through the first community radio service in the state - Radio Mattoli 90.4 FM from next month. “This is a continuous process from our part to provide quality education to the students, and community radio will act as a tool for the learning process. Students can learn their lessons as they are taught in schools by hearing the radio,” said SIET director Babu Sebastian. In the initial stages, the programmes will target rural, coastal and tribal areas where the students are facing difficulty in going to schools and are deprived of tuition and other facilities.Community radios will transmit the study programmes prepared by SIET on a daily basis in the morning and evening. The institute will impart study classes on all subjects from class VIII to XII as per the text books of the state syllabus in Malayalam language. For this, it has already prepared 200 programmes based on the eighth standard syllabus and 270 for SSLC students. Programmes based on ninth, Plus One and Plus Two syllabi are currently under preparation and will be ready for transmission by March 2012. To make the studies enjoyable, SIET has also prepared all programmes in a drama format, Babu added.Like in schools, each subject will be given separate time schedule and will be provided with detailed classes. Apart from the study lessons, personality development programmes, stories based on eminent personalities and their works etc also will be transmitted.
