Hyderabad: As the state of Andhra Pradesh continues reeling under intense heat, many villages in Rayalseema region are facing a severe water crisis.

With empty pots in hand, the people in Hindupur Mandal of Anantapur district, carried out a massive protest to draw government's attention towards water shortage.

The villagers are annoyed with their local MLA who failed to address the problem of water crisis in the village.

The MLA of Hindupur is none other than Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's brother-in-law and superstar of Telugu Cinema Nandamuri Balakrishna.

In a unique protest against the ruling government and Balakrishna, angry citizens even painted "MLA" and "TDP" on the buffaloes. They used placards with his movie dialogues questioning his absence.

Earlier, to highlight the issue of acute water shortage, villagers even hanged empty pots across the village. "It's peak summer and there is acute water crisis. Our MLA said he will stay with us and solve our problems. But he has never come to the village. There is no water in the village," said a protester.

The opposition party YSRCP and CPI have extended full support to the protest.

YSRCP MLA Shrikanth Reddy told CNN News 18, "All four districts in Rayalaseema region are facing severe drinking water problem. The women are struggling and fighting to get water. However, ruling TDP has never made any effort to resolve the problems of this region. It's a family constituency of the TDP, yet people are left to suffer."

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's son, Nara Lokesh, who recently took charge as the Minister of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development had set a target of building overhead tanks in all villages across Andhra Pradesh for water storage and supply.

With summer set to be harsher, people in Hindupur are hoping the government will respond to their problems as soon as possible.
