Swara Bhaskar: Makeup at Miranda House? Never!

New Delhi: Believe it or not, the very thought of stepping out of her home sans the cosmetic frills is intimidating for actress Swara Bhaskar, now. But years ago, when Swara was studying at Miranda House, she had no qualms in being snapped even when she was looking less than picture perfect. So whether she appeared unkempt or drowsy, Swara not only felt comfortable but also endorsed the idea of going au naturel.

As Swara recalls, the good old days spent at Miranda House were about defying regular ideas of the quintessential girl. "Anybody who has studied English Literature at Miranda House would agree, the course makes one take keen interest in feminist theories and findings," she says.

"This was also the time when we would participate in marches and protests, and wear ripped jeans. We were never interested in knowing anything about beauty and beauty tips. We would feel ashamed of ourselves if we applied makeup. We didn't even opt for waxing. And Botox treatment was a strict no. So you can understand what our thought process was like," she recalls.

Even though Minissha Lamba is also a Miranda House alumnus, Swara tells us she doesn't remember seeing her in the college. "Minissha and I were in the same batch. But I don't remember seeing her in the college could be because she was busy with acting and modelling assignments," she says.

Swara made people notice her in Dhanush-Sonam Kapoor starrer 'Raanjhanaa', courtesy the perfection with which she spewed cuss words at Kundan. While many think using explicitly violent and crude words could be the most difficult part of acting to master, for Swara, it was never a task.

"It all comes from the time I spent in DU. Anybody, who has boarded DTC buses (while going to college) and traveled with weird people, would know why cussing is important. My experiences have been such that I would often feel the urge to thrash people in the city. Since I couldn't take to the streets to fight, I would vent my angst and take out my frustration by using cuss words," she says.
