DYFI state secretary T V Rajesh MLA, who was granted bail by the High Court on Tuesday, was released from the Kannur Central Prison on Wednesday afternoon.
The jail authorities received the copy of the High Court order granting him bail in the Shukkoor murder case on Wednesday only, which was stated as the reason for the delay in releasing the MLA from the jail.
A gathering of CPM workers including M V Jayarajan, K P Sahadevan, James Mathew MLA and A N Shamzir had turned up on the premises of the Kannur Central Prison right from the morning to receive Rajesh.
He was garlanded by the party workers as he came out of the jail. Rajesh had surrendered before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Kannur, following the rejection of his plea for anticipatory bail by the High Court on August 13. The JFCM court remanded him in jail till August 27. The appeal against the rejection of bail was allowed by the High Court on Tuesday accepting his argument that he had to perform his duties as an MLA, and on the condition that he should cooperate with the investigation.
Interestingly, CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan who was charged with the same offence under Section 118 of IPC in the murder case remains in jail. His bail petition had earlier been rejected by the High Court. The violent protest demonstrations and attacks on public property following his arrest were some of the factors that resulted in the denial of bail to him by the High Court.
