Team Anna divided over corruption charges against PM
Team Anna divided over corruption charges against PM
As the government hurries to defend the Prime Minister, Team Anna hopes the anti-Congress mood will help them regain strength.

New Delhi: Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare are back in Delhi to take on the government. They are going to sit on a day-long fast against corruption and black money on Sunday, but Team Anna seems divided with many prominent members not attending. However, with the government on a backfoot especially over the coal allocation issue it could be a chance for Team Anna to be back at centre stage.

This is a step up to the big anti-corruption campaign from July 25 planned by Team Anna.

The day-long fast coincides with completion of one year of police action against Ramdev when he was forcibly removed from Ramlila Maidan and which had brought much criticism to the UPA.

But it's not just the UPA which is facing troubled times; Team Anna too seems to be divided.

This over Team Anna's chargesheet released last week which for the first time included the Prime Minister. Manmohan Singh was accused of irregularities in coal block allocation during his tenure as the coal minister in 2004.

Justice Santosh Hegde was quick to give a clean chit to both the Prime Minister and External Affair Minister SM Krishna.

Even at the day long fast Kiran Bedi and Prashant Bhushan will be absent as they are travelling but the shadow of a divided Team Anna is bound to have its impact.

It can however take heart from the fact that the BJP has jumped in its attack on the Prime Minister. The CBI has begun a preliminary probe into the coal issue upon a complaint from BJP leaders Prakash Javedekar and Hansraj Ahir.

A probe has been outrightly rejected by Team Anna and as the government hurries to defend the Prime Minister, Team Anna hopes the anti-Congress mood will help them regain strength.

What's your reaction?
