CHENNAI: A day after Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa announced a slew of measures to find a permanent solution to the effluent problem in Tirupur, a delegation of top officials and representatives of dyeing units left for Gujarat to study the nano technology used to treat effluents of a plant at Bharuch. That plant has reduced its effluent discharge rate from 20% to 7%. The delegation would study whether the technology could be replicated at Tirupur. On July 28, the CM announced that interest-free loans worth Rs 200 crore would be given by the State government to establish 20 common effluent treatment plants in Tirupur.
