KOCHI: If you want your career to be something exciting yet completely different from the conservative ones, you can opt for modelling. Of late, it has been accepted as one of the most glamorous career options and with the expansion of the entertainment and advertising industries, models are high in demand, too. A modelling career can be highly rewarding as you will have the chance to travel across the globe, attend high profile events and be a celebrity. It can also help you to have a career in acting. “Even if you don’t end up as a big league model, you’ll have opportunities to have a successful career that promises substantial income. However, entering the field and building a career requires lots of preparation,” says model coordinator Pooja. There are some institutes and agencies that offer courses in grooming and personality development. Since you require basic skills in acting, it will be advisable to do a certificate or diploma course in acting, too. If fashion and film are your dream careers, you can take up one of the full-time courses on offer. Though high educational qualification is not mandatory for a modelling career, the minimum qualification required to take a course is Plus-Two. Centre for Research in Art of Film and Television (CRAFT), New Delhi, offers diploma courses in acting and modelling. Some of the institutes that offer courses that will help you to have a career in modelling are Padmini Kolhapure School of Acting, Modelling and Grooming, New Delhi, The Ramp, New Delhi, Elite School, New Delhi, The Meyhar Bhasin Academy, New Delhi, YSG-World Wide Model and Promotion Agency, Mumbai, The Coordinator, Mumbai, Face, Mumbai, and International Institute of Electronic Media and Advertising, New Delhi. Modelling, undoubtedly, is a high-paid job. Remuneration varies in ramp modelling, ad modelling and television modelling. Depending on the brand, designer or firm you are working for, the nature of assignments will change. Once you become an established model, your pay will be on a par with the industry standards. “Modelling is definitely a lucrative career but it is highly competitive, too. So you should be well-prepared and aware of the scene before opting for a career in it,” Pooja said.
