Kolkata: The Andamans Coast Guards rescued three tourists on Monday, who had ventured deep into the sea, despite a weather warning and were washed away from the Havelock Island in Port Blair on Monday.
The three New Delhi residents were taken to a nearby health care unit in Havelock, when one of their health started deteriorating. Later, the Chief Medical Officer here advised to shift Neeraj Chandra to the GB Pant Hospital in Port Blair.
“We received a request from Director (Tourism) for an early evacuation of a critical patient to Port Blair. The Coast Guard transported Chandra in a Chetak helicopter to Port Blair. His condition is stable now,” Commandant Dalip Singh, Coast Guard, Andamans told News18.
The Guards say the visitors had blatantly ignored all the alerts and signboards and ventured deep into the sea.
“None of them know how to swim and an inquiry revealed that they were warned by the sea guards which they refused to abide by. Fortunately, all of them have been rescued,” Singh said.
In another recent incident, the Coast Guard had rescued 11 crew members of the MV ITT Panther, a general cargo vessel, from mid-sea in the Andamans. The vessel was on its way to Port Blair from Kolkata and midway it developed a technical snag. The Coast Guard received a distress call and immediately two vessel were sent to rescue the crew.
