The shadow police on Sunday arrested three persons- Nelson, 21, of Kothad, Paul, 30 of Edappaly, James, 31 of Chittoor, for illegal sand smuggling. Acting on a tip-ff received by the City Special Branch Assistant Commissioner Tomy Sebastian regarding the illegal activity in the Cheranelloor-Varappuzha regions, the police also seized a two tipper lorries used for transporting the sand and 12 loads of sand.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Kerala River Bank Protection and Sand Mining Act. The police officials said that stringent action will be taken against those involved in illegal sand dredging.
